July 26, 2020 | Friends has created word flashcard sets that align directly with the kindergarten and first grade classroom curriculums. Two teachers requested these learning tools. Each student in their classes will get their own set of flashcards.
We learned a lot making these first two classroom sets. We’ve streamlined and hopefully we’ll get requests from more teachers once the new school year begins.

January 25, 2020 | Thanks Target for providing our third graders a field trip to the zoo! Target was very generous…each classroom will also have its own private, guided educational tour led by experienced zoo guides. This outside the classroom learning experience is one the students will always remember.
Friends of Dinsmore Elementary is pleased to provide grant writing assistance to the school. We too wish to thank Target!
November 8, 2019 | The American Legion Post #9 brought cupcakes to Ms. Nixon’s 5th grade classroom to celebrate the 100th birthday of the Women’s Auxiliary. The children responded to Roberta Tucker’s brief Veterans Day presentation with questions and comments.
The American Legion Post #9 Women’s Auxiliary is also providing a Thanksgiving meal to a needy Dinsmore Elementary family and, later, a Christmas celebration for a different family. The Women’s Auxiliary will deliver the packages to the school preserving each family’s privacy.
The Boselli Foundation has adopted Dinsmore Elementary for the 2019-2010 school year. The Title 1 school serves approximately 530 students and is located on the Northside. Our desire is to partner with this school by providing additional academic support to students in need. A wonderful way to enhance the learning that occurs in the classroom is to provide tutoring, both during the school day and through an after-school program.
Currently, we are recruiting volunteers to serve once a week for 45-60 minutes, providing tutoring in reading, for students in grades K-2. Hours for tutoring are 9-11 am, 1-2 pm, and 4-5 pm. The request is for volunteers to commit to a minimum of 12 weeks, beginning after Labor Day. Teachers will provide volunteers with guidance on what activities to complete during each session and no prep work is required.
If you would like to participate as a tutor, the first step is to complete a background check using this link.
Then register for the brief volunteer training provided by the Boselli Foundation using this link. Select “Volunteer” at the top of the webpage to get started.
Please contact Linda Brunson, Friends of Dinsmore Elementary, for further questions. Her email is BrunsonLB@icloud.com. Thank you for considering the opportunity to make a difference.
