K to 2 Tutoring

September 29, 2019 | Tutors are still needed for the 2019-2020 school year!

Please sign up using this link. You will be contacted with information on how to begin!

Anyone who can commit one hour per week can make an impact! We are seeking a volunteer tutor for each K to 2 classroom. You are welcome to come and try it out for a week or two and then decide on your commitment, if any.

As a K to 2 Tutor, you’ll assist elementary school students to strengthen their academic skills and build their self-confidence. The K to 2 curriculum is easy to follow and no prep work is required. It is important to provide tutoring in the elementary years to prevent students from falling behind where they may never catch up. These young people thrive on the extra attention from adults who can assist them with the alphabet, numbers, sounds, how to hold a pencil, how to use scissors, and the enjoyment of reading.

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to and belief in all children’s ability to succeed
  • Patient, friendly, reliable, and non-judgmental attitude
  • Ability to listen and determine what the student does not understand

The classroom teacher will provide flash cards, books, and other tools that are specific to the needs of their students. All supplies and materials will be provided. Just bring your smiling face!

You may be working with one student at a time or with a small group of students, based on the needs of the students and your preferences. Most likely you’ll work with the same student(s) every week. The relationship you build by supporting the same student(s) each week has a tremendous positive impact, and you and your student(s) will enjoy working together to accomplish goals throughout the year.

The same day/time each week works best. Generally speaking, classroom tutor sessions are held Monday – Thursday for a morning session (beginning 9am, 10am, or 11am) and a midday session (beginning 1pm). Tutoring happens from late September to early May and observes all school holidays.

Thank you for considering the opportunity to make a difference in the life of a child!
