Dinsmore Elementary School, 7126 Civic Club Dr, Jacksonville, FL 32219
Dinsmore Elementary serves the community located in the far north-west region of Jacksonville, Florida. So far north-west that nearly one-third of the school’s boundary line is the Duval County line. While many students have parents who also attended this same elementary school, the area has an influx of new families.
The dairy farms of years past have mostly been converted into family-affordable housing developments. There are very few businesses and shops located within the school boundaries. There are, however, quite a few churches.
Designed by Henry Klutho, well-known Jacksonville architect, this public school opened in 1952. Two new buildings have added additional classrooms and relocated the library. Directly across from the library in one of the newer buildings is the room that will become the new Science Lab!
The school is designated a science magnet.
Now a Title One school, Dinsmore Elementary has 500+ PreK-5 students and 33 classroom teachers (FTE). The school participates in the Community Eligibility Provision which allows the nation’s highest poverty schools to serve breakfast and lunch at no cost to all enrolled students without collecting household applications. The race/ethnicity is one of the most diverse of all Duval County elementary schools.
Dinsmore Elementary has received an “A” school grade by the Florida Department of Education for four (4) consecutive years.
